Louis Auguste Moreau was born in Dijon, France in 1855 into a family of sculptors. He was the son of Auguste Moreau and brother of Hyppolyte Moreau. His uncles Marthurin Moreau and Hyppolyte-Francois Moreau were also sculptors.
